Bumdra - Bhutan's Paradise 🏔

As I was doing photoblog on my trips to beautiful places in Switzerland, I realized I hadn't written about my trek to Bumdra in Paro, Bhutan. Unquestionably, it is one of the most beautiful places on earth.

The two days Bumdra trek and camp, I took in October, 2019 was one of the most exciting and one of a kind experience, I got to explore in a long time. We drove till Sang Choekor Buddhist College in Paro from Thimphu, after which our hike started. It took us (average walkers) almost six hours to reach Bumdra. Despite the distance, the hike was quite an easy one through stunning oak and rhododendron forests, not very steep ups, breathtaking views of the forest and the Himalayas and clean/fresh air to breath.

Standing elegantly at 3,800m above sea level, Bumdra, which literally means, the 'Rock of One Hundred Thousand Foot Prints' is the name of a place where a monastery today stands. Legend has it that, following Guru Rinpochoes's order, a hundred thousand Dakinis descended on the cave and left their footprints on the rocks (which can be seen inside the Monastery, today. We visited the Monastery after a little rest in our camp.

The campsite is located just below the Monastery. The package includes an overnight stay in the tent (with luxurious set up of warm beds) and three meals. Lunch is served on the way. Truly a Nature paradise, amazing view, clean air, warm hospitality, warmer bed & Good food for just Nu. 3500/- (I think, coz I didn't pay ;))

When you reach Bumdra, you will be simply amazed! The stars are so near, you can almost touch them (You feel like, I mean ;)) It is heaven.

This beautiful horse brought us our lunch, half way

That's the campsite view from the sky burial

one of the three sky burials

We missed the sun rise, which I am sure would have been spectacular. But to make up for that, we hiked upwards to two of the three sky burials, which took us more than an hour or almost two from the campsite. After returning to the campsite, we were served warm breakfast. The walk down till the road point was easy, it took us around four hours.
